In a sign of the times, our first thought upon hearing about the Asian tsunami was that it was a manmade catastrophe designed to divert world attention away from the Bush Gang's astonishing level of incompetence, corruption and criminality. Cyndy at Mousemusings had a similar thought, so we weren't alone. Michel Chossudovsky at the Centre for Research on Globalisation is positive that the U.S. had foreknowledge of the tsunami that could have saved thousands of lives, had a warning gone out.
Now, it's hard to believe that the Bush Gang has the power to invoke 9.0 earthquakes designed to spark 100-foot-high waves that kill half a million people. If they wanted to do that, they'd simply start a perpetual war in the Middle East.
No, wait....
Still, Russian scientists have for many months been reporting strange energy surges that have been slamming into the Earth. This is the first that we've heard about this, and it certainly is not part of the corporatist media Tsunami Circus. Here's what the Russians have been saying, with editorial comment by Chossudovsky:

The following report was released barely a few days before the Tsunami which swept South and Southeast Asia on December 26.
What is important in this report is that it points to a pattern of major climatic disruptions. In fact several disruptive climatic events took place within the months preceding the dramatic events of December 26.
On December 1, 2004 barely reported in the media, in one of "the largest weather events in recorded human history, 86,800 square miles of China was shrouded in fog, bringing transportation systems (especially air travel) to a virtual standstill throughout the country."

Unknown Energy Surges Continue to Hit Planet; Global Weather Systems in Chaos

An increasingly panicked global effort is now underway by the world's top scientists to understand an unprecedented series of 'blasts', energy surges, which the planet has been taking from an as yet unknown source which has been bombarding Antarctica with cosmic rays and disrupting Northern Hemisphere weather systems on a global scale.
The first of these cosmic ray blasts occurred nearly 5 years ago and have been increasing in their frequency and intensity since the end of November. The once normally darkened skies of the Northern Hemisphere's Arctic regions are now in twilight due to these blasts. Wayne Davidson, from the Canadian Government's weather station at Resolute Bay, located in the Arctic Circle, says about this mysterious lighting, "The entire horizon is raised like magic, like the hand of God is bringing it up."
On December 1, 2004 the largest recorded blast sent not only shockwaves through the world scientific community but also through the Northern Hemisphere resulting in one of the largest weather events in recorded human history when 86,800 square miles of China was shrouded in fog, bringing transportation systems (especially air travel) to a virtual standstill throughout the country.
As reported by the BBC in this article from October, 2002, "German scientists have found a significant piece of evidence linking cosmic rays to climate change. They have detected charged particle clusters in the lower atmosphere that were probably caused by the space radiation. They say the clusters can lead to the condensed nuclei which form into dense clouds."
These German scientists from the Max Planck Institute of Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg go on to say that their measurements "have for the first time detected in the upper troposphere large positive ions with mass numbers up to 2500", and "Our observations provide strong evidence for the ion-mediated formation and growth of aerosol particles in the upper troposphere."
What they hadn't expected to happen though has been the large- scale occurrences of this over the past few weeks, to include China on December 2nd and 14th and then India on the 21st, which is due to both China's and India's reliance on fossil fuels and the continuing degradation of their air quality.
The effects of these blasts have also been felt throughout the rest of the Northern Hemisphere resulting in such freak occurrences as, hurricane force winds in Paris , Germany, Canada, Russia, England and the United States on an almost simultaneous basis. Accompanying these hurricane force winter winds have been the massive cold fronts following them dropping normal winter lows to record lows throughout the entire Northern Hemisphere.
Though not yet at a point to acknowledge this publicly, some of the world's top scientists are beginning to see an astrophysical correlation between these cosmic ray blasts to our planet and an ever-increasing number of global events relating to atmospheric explosions of inbound meteors, such as those in Indonesia, where a meteorite was picked up by their Air Forces radar, China, where a meteorite explosion turned 'night into day' and Washington D.C. where one police official stated, "It looked like a ball of fire falling out of the sky."
We're waiting to hear from Nick Begich, who has been investigating the government's HAARP program for years.
HAARP stands for High Frequency Active Aural Research Project, a joint effort of the Air Force and the navy at an isolated base near Gakona, Alaska.
It uses 72 foot tall antennas---360 of them---spread out over 4 acres.
HAARP zaps the upper atmosphere with a focused and steerable electromagnetic beam. It is an advanced model of an 'ionospheric heater'. (The ionosphere is the electrically-charged sphere surrounding Earth's upper atmosphere. It ranges between about 40 to 600 miles above Earth's surface.)
Put simply, the apparatus for HAARP is a reversal of a radio telescope: antennas send out signals instead of receiving. HAARP is the test run for a super-powerful radio wave beaming technology that lifts areas of the ionosphere by focusing a beam and heating those areas. Electromagnetic waves then bounce back onto Earth and penetrate everything-living and dead.
HAARP publicity gives the impression that the High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program is mainly an academic project with the goal of changing the ionosphere to improve communications for our own good. However, other US military documents put it more clearly: HAARP aims to learn how to "exploit the ionosphere for Department of Defense purposes". Communicating with submarines is only one of those purposes.
Press releases and other information from the military on HAARP continually downplay what it could do. Publicity documents insist that the HAARP project is no different than other ionospheric heaters operating safely throughout the world in places such as Arecibo, Puerto Rico; Troms�, Norway; and the former Soviet Union. However, a 1990 government document indicates that the radio frequency (RF) power zap will drive the ionosphere to unnatural activities:
"...at the highest HF powers available in the West, the instabilities commonly studied are approaching their maximum RF energy dissipative capability, beyond which the plasma processes will 'run away' until the next limiting factor is reached."
If the military, in cooperation with the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, can show that this new ground-based "Star Wars" technology is sound, they both win. The military has a relatively inexpensive defence shield and the university can brag about the most dramatic geophysical manipulation since atmospheric explosions of nuclear bombs. After successful testing, they would have the military megaprojects of the future and huge markets for Alaska's North Slope natural gas.
Looking at the other patents which built on the work of a Texas physicist named Bernard Eastlund, it becomes clearer how the military intends to use the HAARP transmitter. It also makes governmental denials less believable. The military knows how it intends to use this technology, and has made it clear in their documents. The military has deliberately misled the public through sophisticated word games, deceit and outright disinformation.
The military says the HAARP system could:
* give the military a tool to replace the electromagnetic pulse effect of atmospheric thermonuclear devices (still considered a viable option by the military through at least 1986);
* replace the huge Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) submarine communication system operating in Michigan and Wisconsin with a new and more compact technology;
* be used to replace the over-the-horizon radar system that was once planned for the current location of HAARP, with a more flexible and accurate system;
* provide a way to wipe out communications over an extremely large area, while keeping the military's own communications systems working;
* provide a wide-area Earth-penetrating tomography which, if combined with the computing abilities of EMASS and Cray computers, would make it possible to verify many parts of nuclear nonproliferation and peace agreements;
* be a tool for geophysical probing to find oil, gas and mineral deposits over a large area;
* be used to detect incoming low-level planes and cruise missiles, making other technologies obsolete.
The above abilities seem like a good idea to all who believe in sound national defence and to those concerned about cost-cutting. However, the possible uses which the HAARP records do not explain, and which can only be found in US Air Force, Army, Navy and other federal agency records, are alarming. Moreover, effects from the reckless use of these power levels in our natural shield-the ionosphere-could be cataclysmic, according to some scientists.
Now that the quake and tsunami have occurred, corporatist media would have us believe that it was an isolated set of events and, as soon as they've played the story to death, they will be free to resume coverage of celebrity murderers and rapists. Seismic activity in the region, however, has not only continued, but it has continued at a high rate of intensity.
There has been continuous seismic activity (in excess of Magnitude 6.0) in Northern Sumatra and on the Nicobar Islands, India, which followed the Magnitude 9.0 Earthquake on December 26, 00.58 GMT.
On January 1, 2005: Magnitude 6.5 on the Richter scale was recorded in Northern Sumatra.
So, what's the deal here? Have the boys been heating up their HAARP with too much frequency? Have they been taking pot shots at the Indian Ocean with their Star Wars space-based weapons? Is this a warning to China and other military powers not to engage a new weapons race?
Again, not to diminish the horrible reality on the ground in south Asia, but something strange and unexplained is happening with the Earth's atmosphere. If nothing else, perhaps there is a cosmic, karmic re-balancing in effect, as if the Universe has decided to pull the plug on a species that can't help screwing with nature. Unfortunately, if this is the case, the Universe is going after the wrong people.
